Exodus
Exodus
1997 Greatorex Street Synagogue

A kitchen (a bit like a cell) in a deconsecrated synagogue about to be reoccupied by a business centre for local Asian companies. The walls of the kitchen were smeared with honey; coriander seeds pressed into this (referring to manna from heaven Exodus 16). Waxed paper bags full of water on the floor and stacks of bread dipped in wax on the top of the cupboards. Food for the journey/migration to another place. A constant taking over by others of spaces indicative of historical immigration and moving on relating to this area of the East End. I left some of the room as it was (memory) otherwise it might as well be anywhere.
