For a long time images of boxes had appeared in my work, in many different forms. Slab pots of Rapunzel like towers with windows high up, small boxes with lids on with no possibility of escape, segmented life drawings contained in a series of boxes making up one image. All these images in some way seemed to be restrictive, contained within themselves and by being limited held no room for expansion. In an attempt to break down the walls of the box I used my interest in Greek Mythology to make a series of contemporary icons using the theme of Demeter and Persephone.
